The nutrient-rich currents in this area make the walls come alive with an abundance of life, making it a paradise for divers of all levels.
As you explore the underwater world, you will encounter a captivating tapestry of colorful sponges, Bryozoans, sea squirts, and corals. The diversity of species is truly awe-inspiring. Keep an eye out for the magnificent tunas and greater amberjacks that inhabit these waters, adding an extra touch of excitement to your dive.
In addition to the natural wonders, this site also boasts intriguing archaeological remains. Discover the remnants of Roman marble columns and roof tiles, providing a fascinating glimpse into the past. These historical artifacts, combined with the captivating marine life, make for an unparalleled diving experience.
Susak Island itself is a unique gem in the Adriatic Sea, distinguished by its sandy terrain. According to local legend, a large cross, washed up on the island's shores, was carried by Benedictine monks into their church. However, the cross has now become too large to be moved through the door, leaving an intriguing mystery for those who visit.
The people of Susak have long relied on the sea, making it a vibrant community of fishermen and seafarers. As you immerse yourself in these waters, you become a part of this rich maritime heritage.
Please note that the waters off Pt. Margarina require caution and expertise to navigate. Over the years, they have become the final resting place for many vessels, adding an element of intrigue and exploration to this dive site. Archaeologists and local recreational divers have been aware of this location since 1970, making it a fascinating spot for diving enthusiasts.
Two recorded shipwrecks have been found in the area. One holds a cargo of building materials, including partially-dressed stone blocks and round stone pillars, resting at a depth of 28 to 30 meters. The other wreck, located in a ravine surrounded by rocks at a depth of 6 to 18 meters, contains a cargo of tegulae and imbrices. Overgrown with seaweed, these relics have seamlessly become part of the underwater landscape, making it difficult to accurately date them. However, given the presence of tegulae, the shipwreck can be attributed to the ancient period.
