El Jardín de las Ánforas
When departing from the port of Ciudadela and heading north, it takes approximately 10 minutes to reach this captivating dive site in the crystal-clear waters. After securely anchoring and setting up the necessary safety equipment, divers have the opportunity to descend and explore the fascinating remains of scattered ancient amphorae. Depending on your diving qualification and experience, you can descend to a maximum depth of 18 meters or even further.
Underneath the surface, a diverse array of marine life awaits discovery. Encounter white seabreams, two-banded seabreams, damselfish, groupers, gilthead breams, painted combers, moray eels, thicklip grey mullets, mottled groupers, meagres, and ornate wrasses. These species coexist amidst the underwater landscape, creating a vibrant and captivating environment.
Throughout history, Minorca has served as a crossroads for various cultures along the Mediterranean shores. It boasted several strategically located ports along its coast. Cala'n Forcat Cove, where this dive site is located, is believed to have provided a safe haven for ancient ships, leaving behind remnants of shipwrecks and scattered amphorae on the seabed.
The dive site, named after the abundance of these ancient artifacts, offers a maximum diving depth of 24 meters. Following the descent, divers are advised not to disturb the remains but are welcome to photograph them. The dive site also showcases magnificent rock formations that create intriguing cavities and caves. With excellent visibility and abundant marine life, this dive is a treasure trove of fascinating encounters.
In addition to the previously mentioned species, divers can also admire largescaled scorpionfish, octopus, greater slipper lobsters, and the mesmerizing beauty of ocean grasse-wrack. Amongst this underwater paradise, one can spot sea cotton-spinners, red starfish, and golden anemones.
As the dive progresses, we guide our course towards the north to reach the coastal lane. We gradually ascend to 5 meters, ensuring a safe return to the starting point while performing the necessary safety stop.
This captivating dive experience is suitable for divers of various levels, from beginners to advanced. With a maximum depth of 23 meters and visibility extending up to 17 meters, this dive promises an unforgettable adventure in the waters of Spain.
