La Catedral

This dive at Cala Morel in Menorca, Spain offers an incredible underwater experience accessible from both a boat or the land. Located on the north coast of the island, divers can enter the water from platforms along the coast. Once submerged, they will encounter a wide sandy area with excellent visibility of up to 18 meters.

The dive begins by heading west from the cove, leading divers to the captivating Cueva de La Catedral. Along the way, divers can spot a variety of marine life including groupers, moray eels, lobsters, and largescaled scorpionfish. Exploring the inlet, divers may also encounter red mullets, breams, saddled seabreams, two-banded seabreams, and even urchins.

Within the cove, there is an abundance of marine species such as ornate wrasses, painted combers, rainbow wrasses, urchins, ball-algas, cotton-spiners, stinker sponges, and red starfish. The bottom is covered with ocean grasse-wrack, creating a vibrant underwater landscape. Although fan mussels have become less prevalent since 2018, schools of salemas still thrive in this area.

Continuing northwards along the western side of the inlet, divers can explore even greater depths. Exiting the cove, divers can head westwards towards the end of Cala des Morts. Here, they will encounter an intriguing underwater tunnel at a depth of about 6 meters, which leads to the other side of Cala des Morts at 1.5 meters. Inside the tunnel, divers can admire the beautiful backlights and explore the fascinating cave. The cave, approximately 50 meters in length, features stalactites and is home to various species including groupers, lobsters, moray eels, and largescaled scorpionfish.

After the exploration, divers can return to the starting point in the opposite direction, enjoying a relaxing sail back while conducting the safety stop. This dive at Cala Morel is suitable for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Whether diving from a boat or from land, this thrilling underwater adventure offers an unforgettable experience in the crystal-clear waters of Menorca, Spain.
