The southeast corner of Útila, located in the Bay Islands of Honduras, boasts an incredible dive site known as Seamound. This underwater feature is a must-visit for advanced and expert divers. With its fascinating topography, the Seamound starts at around 10 meters and plunges to depths of 40+ meters, offering an exhilarating dive experience.
One of the highlights of diving at Seamound is the presence of strong currents, both on the surface and underwater. These currents contribute to the vibrant marine life found here. Divers frequently encounter large schools of spadefish and jacks, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Additionally, the abundance of healthy coral formations further enriches the underwater ecosystem.
Visibility in this area is excellent, reaching up to 22 meters. While the maximum depth of Seamound is around 26 meters, the diverse underwater landscape and the allure of spotting whale sharks during the appropriate season make it an unforgettable dive destination.
Conveniently situated not far offshore, Seamound is easily accessible during a regular dive trip. However, it is important to note that due to the challenging conditions posed by the strong currents and greater depths, it is advisable for divers to have advanced diving skills. With proper preparation and expertise, this dive site promises an extraordinary adventure for those seeking to explore the beauty beneath the waves.
