Rocky Point

Rocky Point, located near Old Airport Road in La Punta, Útila, Bay Islands, Honduras, is a popular dive site in the water. This site offers a sloping wall that becomes increasingly sheer as you move eastward along the wall. Divers can explore depths of up to 40 meters, making it an ideal location for Extended Range training.

At shallower depths, divers can encounter a diverse array of marine life, including wrasses, blue tangs, jacks, butterfly fish, and much more. For those who prefer deeper dives, lionfish can be found in the deeper regions of the site.

Rocky Point is renowned for its excellent drift diving opportunities. However, there is now an option for a mooring line, providing divers with a more controlled descent. Drift dives at Rocky Point offer the chance to witness various coral formations, ranging from gentle sloping walls to sheer drop-offs that allow for diving beyond the recreational limit.

The majority of vibrant marine life can be observed between 20 to 80 feet, where a slight current constantly brings nutrient-rich water from the depths surrounding the island. While exploring this dive site, it is advisable to periodically scan the open water, as there is always the possibility of spotting larger creatures such as sharks, eagle rays, schooling jacks, mesmerizing groups of oceanic triggerfish, and occasionally turtles.

As you navigate along the wall, keep an eye out for opportunistic predators patiently waiting for their next meal. This includes species like scorpionfish, sea horses, eels, and blennies that blend so seamlessly with the environment that they become almost indistinguishable from the surrounding coral.

Rocky Point's seabed is adorned with healthy coral and colorful sponges, with barrel sponges particularly standing out as they tower over the nearby formations. With a visibility of approximately 19 meters and a maximum depth of 23 meters, this dive site is best suited for advanced and expert divers seeking an unforgettable underwater adventure.

Plan your dive at Rocky Point for an incredible exploration of Honduras' aquatic wonders in the Bay Islands.
