As you explore the area around the trees, you may encounter fascinating creatures like eels and pikes. It's worth noting that the colder season naturally limits the presence of fish in the vicinity.
To reach this captivating dive site, take a boat from Hilterfingen to the opposite shore. Upon arrival, prepare for an open water descent directly onto the awe-inspiring Spiezberg wall. Depending on visibility conditions, the wall becomes visible relatively quickly. The dive proceeds towards Thun, commencing at a depth of 5m. From there, you'll navigate along the wall, passing smaller rock formations until you reach a maximum depth of approximately 12m. After about 10 minutes, you'll descend to 24m and continue along the steep wall. After 18 minutes, you'll arrive at the first false saddle, which ascends towards the center of the lake. Another 2 minutes will bring you to the second saddle, also pointing towards the lake's midpoint. Continue following this saddle until reaching a depth of around 27-30m. At this depth, you'll have the opportunity to witness the remarkable Frankenstein structure emerge from the lake's depths. Taking the time to circumnavigate Frankenstein, you can then return to the wall along the saddle. Be mindful that parts of the steep face are overhanging, so it's crucial to look up and avoid contact during your ascent. It's essential to exercise caution at this dive site due to the depth, as well as the presence of numerous fishing nets and large trees with branches jutting out towards the lake. Ensure you maintain excellent buoyancy control throughout the dive. The exceptional visibility and unique topography make this an exemplary winter dive site.
