Bäregg
At this dive site, divers will have the chance to encounter a variety of aquatic life, including eglis, pike, grops, and burbot. Additionally, snails and caddis fly larvae can be found near the trees, adding to the biodiversity of the site.
To access the dive site, you can head to the bus stop Bäregg (Merligen) when coming from Thun. A gravel parking lot is available, although there are no toilets or shelter on site. If you wish to change clothes, it is recommended to bring a blanket as you will be standing on gravel. The entry point can be reached either on the left, with a big step from the landing stage, or on the right side via a small path leading into the water. Please exercise caution while entering the water, as you will need to navigate over some stones.
During the dive, you can enjoy a gradual descent towards Thun. The initial descent, up to about 12 meters, offers a flat and muddy terrain. As you progress, you will encounter small rock walls, which you can explore down to a depth of 30 meters. Beyond this point, the terrain becomes flat again. On your way back to the exit, take note of the tree trunks and small rocks in the shallow water. If the weather conditions are favorable, take a moment to look towards the water surface, where you can observe the house fronts along the shore, creating a unique visual spectacle. Don't forget to keep an eye out for potential photo opportunities, such as a brick field or a lively swarm of eglis surrounding the trees. With a stroke of luck, you may even catch a glimpse of barbels.
To exit the dive site, follow the small path with the stones. It's important to note that one of the main risks during the dive is the entry and exit process, so exercise caution throughout.
With a maximum depth of 23 meters and a visibility of approximately 5 meters, the Bäregg dive site is suitable for divers of beginner level and above.
