Gunten Bad
This dive site in Gunten, Switzerland, offers a variety of diving opportunities for divers of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced tech divers. The entrance to the Guntenbad dive site is accessible via stairs, leading to a sloping terrain with a maximum depth of up to 15m. Beyond this point, there is a step-by-step steep wall that extends to more than 50m.
Please note that diving is prohibited at this site from mid-May to mid-September due to bathing season. However, depending on the season and time of day, divers can explore the beauty of the lake. Particularly in the upper area, there are various trees and seagrasses that create a captivating underwater landscape.
The dive site is located at the end of Gunten, towards Interlaken, and has limited parking spaces available. In case of bad weather, divers can seek shelter in the bathing area to change clothes. Restroom facilities are also available, although it's important to take care of your equipment as sometimes they may be damaged.
To begin the dive, descend from the stairs onto a platform with about half a meter of water depth. From there, continue over a ledge to reach a depth of about 3m. The slope gradually drops down to approximately 15-18m, followed by a step-by-step steep face with small platforms. This face extends to a depth of more than 50m.
For beginners, it is recommended to stay near the edge of the wall and dive towards Thun. After approximately 15 minutes and at a depth of 15m, you will encounter the first significant tree marked as a "turning point." As you continue, you will come across more smaller trees and branches at this depth. After around 25-30 minutes, a large rowing boat will come into view, marking the final turning point for a shallow water dive.
During the return journey, make your way relatively quickly to a depth of over 8m, where you will find a large seagrass meadow with various branches and abundant fish. For deeper dives, start your descent directly down over the edge, which is approximately 10m. Then, swim along the wall towards Thun at your preferred depth and gradually ascend over the edge. In the upper part of the wall, take the opportunity to observe fish in the trees and seagrass.
For advanced tech divers, there is an entry point near Interlaken Diving, and at a depth of approximately 30m, you will reach a drop-off known as the "Waldfest." This particular spot features palm trees, deck chairs, and a table with deco beer, serving as a unique underwater attraction.
When diving at this site, keep in mind that the visibility typically ranges around 8m, and the maximum depth reaches 29m. With its diverse underwater terrain and stunning scenery, Guntenbad is a must-visit destination for avid divers exploring the waters of Switzerland.
