Koh Haa Cathedral

Koh Haa Yai, the largest island in the group, is a popular destination for divers in Thailand's Krabi Province. This stunning dive site offers a variety of attractions, including three magnificent caverns located on the southwest side of the island. Many divers are drawn to these caverns, which are often mistakenly referred to as Koh Haa Five.

The highlight of Koh Haa Yai is The Cathedral, the largest of the three caverns. Accessible through an opening ranging from 6 to 13 meters, this cavern allows divers to surface inside and witness the breathtaking view above and around. Sunlight filters through the waters below, illuminating the ancient stalactites hanging from the high ceilings, creating a magical effect. The Cathedral is also known for its unique inter-connecting caverns, with one particularly impressive swim-through that resembles a large round tunnel.

Marine life at Koh Haa Yai is abundant and diverse. Divers can encounter fascinating creatures such as harlequin shrimps, leafy ghost pipefish, gorgonian sea fans, and spiny lobsters hiding in cracks. If lucky, one may even have the chance to spot a majestic whale shark cruising along the western side of the island. The waters surrounding Koh Haa Yai offer excellent visibility, averaging 17 meters, providing a clear view of the vibrant underwater world.

For those seeking an alternative route, the area from The Cathedral leading to the western side of Koh Haa Yai is a captivating option. This seldom dived area features a sloping, coral-covered reef with exceptional visibility. As divers descend along the reef slope, they will encounter various coral formations, rocky outcrops, and deeper bommies adorned with soft corals and gorgonian sea fans. Eventually, the route curves around and connects to Koh Haa Five, also known as The Secret Garden, offering a unique exploration opportunity.

The shallow coral garden in front of the beach on Koh Haa Yai is a must-see for snorkelers and beginner divers. Situated at a depth of approximately 6 meters, this area is filled with magnificent coral formations that can reach several meters in height. Among the coral, vibrant marine life thrives, including clown fish, angelfish, rabbitfish, grouper, snapper, wrasse, banner fish, moorish idols, and colorful parrot fish. Turtles, octopus, squid, and cuttlefish are also frequently spotted in this enchanting underwater oasis.

With its captivating underwater scenery, diverse marine life, and accessible dive sites, Koh Haa Yai is a fantastic destination suitable for both beginner and advanced divers. Don't miss the chance to explore this underwater paradise located in Thailand's Krabi Province.
