Neygey Thila
Located just north of Amingiri in the Maldives, Neygey Thila is a popular dive site known as "Hoholha Gaa" in the local Divehi language. Translated to English, it means "rock with overhangs," which perfectly describes the unique underwater landscape here. In the protection of a faru between two channels, this dive site offers less exposure to strong currents, making it suitable for divers of all experience levels.
The reef structure at Neygey Thila is a thila, an underwater mount, with a top reef located at 4 meters that drops steeply to approximately 30 meters. With a visibility of 16 meters and a maximum depth of 21 meters, divers can explore the diverse marine life that inhabits this site. From long-nosed hawkfish and red anemones to juvenile reef fish, there is an abundance of unique reef dwellers to discover.
Common species that can be found at Neygey Thila include lionfish, fusiliers, fairy basslets, damselfish, and tunas. The overhangs provide a perfect spot to search for nudibranches and other macro life, while glassfish, cleaner shrimp, and moray eels tend to congregate together.
