Barge aux congres (La Tantine)

The dive site offers a challenging yet thrilling experience for expert divers. With a maximum depth of 43m and an impressive visibility of 22m, it provides an opportunity to explore the underwater wonders in detail. However, it's important to note that this dive should only be attempted by experienced individuals due to its depth and the presence of strong currents.

Located near Wrack 'Tantine' in Circuit des Crêtes, Hyères, Toulon, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Metropolitan France, 83400, France, the site houses a mysterious wreck known as the Congressional Barge. The wreck's origins are shrouded in mystery, leaving divers intrigued by its enigmatic history. Although little is known about its sinking or the reason behind it, it is believed to have been a tugboat equipped with a crane aft. Oddly, the vessel carried bricks onboard without any known purpose.

Despite the lack of historical information, the wreck itself is not particularly captivating. Measuring approximately 20m in length, 6m in width, and 3m in height, it rests flat on the sandy bottom. A brief ten-minute exploration should be sufficient to navigate around the wreck, given its small size.

While the wreck's historical significance may be limited, the dive site's appeal lies in the opportunity to test one's skills in challenging conditions. With its depth, currents, and limited visibility, divers can push their limits and enhance their expertise.

For seasoned divers seeking a thrilling adventure in French waters, this dive site offers both a captivating challenge and an opportunity to explore the beautiful underwater surroundings.
