Prophète
Located in the water to the south-east of Cap Lardier, off the coast of France, is the wreck of the Prophète. This historical site rests on a sandy seabed, approximately 33m below the surface. The Prophète was a cargo ship that measured 43m in length and 7m in width. Equipped with both sail and steam propulsion, this vessel tragically sank on March 28, 1860 due to water ingress. Thankfully, no lives were lost, although the cargo did meet a similar fate.
Divers exploring the wreckage of the Prophète can expect to encounter various marine species. It is quite common to come across groupers near the boilers and the drive wheel. Additionally, conger eels and moray eels can be found playfully hiding within the tubes. While the wreck is currently in a deteriorated and silted state, the boilers and the large propeller drive wheel remain significant points of interest.
With a visibility of approximately 18m and a maximum depth of 33m, this dive site is recommended for advanced and expert divers. Its close proximity to Cap Lardier, La Croix-Valmer, Draguignan, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, and Metropolitan France makes it easily accessible for diving enthusiasts. Immerse yourself in this captivating underwater adventure and explore the intriguing history of the Prophète wreck.
