B26 Marauder
Dive to a depth of 45 meters and explore the scattered remnants of an aircraft wreck. Among the wreckage, you'll discover intriguing fragments such as a wheel and landing gear, Pratt & Whitney engines, a 4-blade propeller, and wing pieces. As you ascend to around 32 meters, you'll encounter the aircraft's empennage and two turrets equipped with machine guns.
The underwater ecosystem surrounding the wreck showcases a variety of flora and fauna typical of the Mediterranean. Keep an eye out for groupers, conger eels, and moray eels as you explore this captivating dive site.
The B26 Marauder, an American twin-engine medium bomber, played a significant role in history. On August 18, 1944, a squadron of fourteen B26s departed from Corsica with the mission of targeting and neutralizing the German-held battleship "Provence". Unfortunately, the lead aircraft of the squadron fell victim to Flak artillery, resulting in both engines catching fire and the plane crashing east of Cap Vieux.
