Papuan Explorer wreck dive
The Papuan Explorer is a popular dive site in Fiji for advanced divers. This 140' steel cargo vessel was intentionally sunk in the 80's and now rests upright on a muddy seabed. Caution is advised for penetration due to silt, zero light zones, and sharp objects.
During this dive, you can explore an intriguing wreck and practice limited visibility techniques. The shallowest point is at 14 meters, while the seabed reaches a maximum depth of 25 meters. The site boasts diverse marine life, including surgeonfish, batfish, mangrove bass, bannerfish, ornate ghost pipefish, grouper, crabs, shrimps, and various types of coral.
Considering the reduced visibility caused by the muddy bottom, it's recommended to plan your dive on an incoming tide for better visibility. However, note that visibility typically ranges only a few meters at best. For a more enjoyable experience, we highly recommend using NITROX at this site. Penetration should only be attempted by suitably trained and equipped divers.
Experience the beauty of the ocean while respecting its delicate ecosystem. Plan your dive at the Papuan Explorer dive site and enjoy the wonders that await you.
