Delve into the intriguing history of the Belier, a rock-breaking barge of French origin, which tragically sank during the tumultuous floods of the Douro River on January 18, 1939. Today, divers can explore a substantial portion of the wreckage, which spans an impressive 36 meters in length and 12 meters in width. Within the remains, witness remnants of the boiler, brass and bronze piping, a distinctive circular structure, machinery adorned with intricate gear wheels, and various compartments and sections of the hull.
Planning your dive at this site is a breeze, with straightforward navigation and minimal surface and bottom currents. However, given its proximity to the coast, it is advisable to check sea conditions and keep a close eye on wave activity. Expect an average visibility of 5 meters as you navigate through the submerged wonders. To ensure comfort throughout your dive, we recommend donning a 7mm isothermal suit, as the water temperature hovers around 13ºC.
Experience the unparalleled beauty of this dive site during the period from June to September, when conditions are optimal. Perfect for divers of all levels, including beginners, this captivating barge wreck promises enchanting underwater adventures and unforgettable memories.
