Gobbo Reef
Welcome to our dive site in the water, located in Bašanija, Grad Umag, Istria County, Croatia. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to explore a rocky shallow area in the open sea that holds remnants of minesweeper equipment from WWII. These mechanical sweeps, torpedo-like tools used to cut the anchoring cables of moored naval mines, were accidentally discarded by local fishermen. As a result, the dive site has become a fascinating underwater museum, rich in history and surrounded by abundant marine life.
With a visibility of 8m and a maximum depth of 11m, this dive spot is perfect for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced. The dive begins on a plateau at 7m and gradually descends to 14m along the edges, which are filled with rugged rocks, making it impossible for fishing nets to be dragged across. Whenever fishermen accidentally caught items such as sweeps or mine weights, they would return them to the sea, specifically to the Gobo reef, which is why this underwater museum exists.
While exploring this site, you will encounter schools of common Mediterranean reef fish, including sardines, breams, conger eels, nudibranches, and brown meagres. The vibrant colors of the fish and the surrounding underwater landscape create a mesmerizing experience for divers.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced diver, diving at this location will allow you to immerse yourself in history, observe the wonders of marine life, and appreciate the beauty of the underwater world. So come and join us at our dive site in Bašanija, Croatia, where history and nature converge for an unforgettable diving experience.
