Eastern Arch
This dive site in Northland, New Zealand features a captivating arch with steep walls. The arch's western entrance offers boulders and kelpy walls at about 18m, while the eastern end showcases a vertical drop into depths of 40m+. Divers can enjoy breathtaking views of the open ocean from this vantage point.
Exploring the arch, divers will be delighted to find a thriving ecosystem of colorful invertebrates, sponges, and the occasional Nudibranchs. The walls are adorned with these enchanting creatures, creating a picturesque underwater scene.
Upon entering the archway, divers will be greeted by an eerie darkness. The archway is quite long, and as the channel deepens, very little light penetrates through. To fully appreciate the surroundings, it is recommended to bring a descent light with you.
It is important to note that the entrance to the arch on the western side may be easily missed if divers start their descent on the reef and go too deep. Caution and proper navigation are encouraged to fully experience this remarkable dive site.
With a visibility of 14m and a maximum depth of 19m, this dive site is best suited for advanced and expert level divers.
