Son-ok point

Son-ok Point at Pintuyan, Panaon Island is renowned for its abundant whale shark encounters, making it the top destination for modern-day sightings in Southern Leyte. The captivating coral garden atop the wall teems with vibrant sea whips, soft corals, sea fans, and barrel sponges, offering a visual treat to divers. Additionally, divers may also catch glimpses of reef sharks and the lively resident Napoleon wrasse. Frequent appearances by turtles further enhance the diving experience.

Locally recognized as iho-tiki, fishermen have been fortunate to spot whale sharks here since the 1950s. While encountering these graceful creatures at Sunok cannot be guaranteed, the likelihood is significantly high. In fact, most awe-inspiring whale shark photographs associated with Southern Leyte were likely captured at Sunok, which has been designated as a Marine Protected Area for a considerable period. The dive site welcomes divers with a terraced wall starting at 20 meters, gradually plunging deeper as it extends southward. Rainbow runners dominate the vicinity, accompanied by schools of jacks and fusiliers.

With a maximum depth of 22 meters and limited visibility, Sunok Point at Pintuyan is recommended for advanced divers seeking an exhilarating underwater adventure.
