Pecio de Puerto del Carmen
Explore the extraordinary underwater world of wrecks in this dive site. A single dive offers the opportunity to visit up to six wrecks, each with its own unique story. Remarkably, the shallowest wrecks are also the best-preserved, with one even protruding from beneath the rocks of the jetty itself, providing an unforgettable and unconventional view.
These wrecks were once fishing boats that were intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef. As a result, the dive offers a completely unparalleled landscape unlike any other dive on the island. This makes it a must-visit for wreck enthusiasts and a highly sought-after experience for divers exploring Lanzarote for the first time.
The ships belong to the former fleet of Banco Saharan Canary and were dismantled and decontaminated before being sunk in the designated area of the black sand esplanade. Resting peacefully on the seafloor, these wrecks have become a haven for diverse marine life. It is advisable to start the dive by exploring the deepest wrecks and gradually ascending to the shallower ones located towards the west. One of the wrecks stands proudly with its intact structure resting on the reef, its bow pointing towards the vast blue expanse.
As you navigate the remains, you will encounter various cave-dwelling creatures such as rascacios and alfonsitos. Pay attention to the sandy patches, as you may spot chuchos, tablecloths, sea eagles, torpedoes, and angelfish. Moreover, keep an eye on the open water, as pelagic fish of all kinds occasionally make an appearance.
With a visibility of 19m and a maximum depth of 27m, this dive site is suited for advanced and expert divers. Located near Puerto del Carmen in Tías, Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain, it offers convenient access for divers exploring this beautiful part of the country. Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of wrecks and uncover the hidden treasures beneath the waves.
