Car Pile - Vaersenbaai
Car Pile is a dive site that was created in the mid-1970s. The reef starts at a 45-degree angle. In the 1970s, it was chosen as a designated area for disposing of old non-functional cars. The engines were removed from the vehicles and placed on a barge.
The barge is situated between a depth of 70ft/21m and the deepest point reaches 100ft/30m. It is adorned with abundant marine life, including sponges and soft coral.
Off The Road is another dive site that originated in the mid-1970s. The reef also starts at a 45-degree angle. Similarly, this site was designated as a dumping area for old cars that were no longer operational during that time. The engines were removed and placed on a separate barge. The vehicles were then dumped overboard, settling between 60ft/18m and approximately 140ft/42m. The barge itself is slightly west of the mooring and positioned upside down, tilting towards the deeper part. Over the years, the cars have deteriorated, leaving mostly remnants of bumpers and rubble.
For optimal diving conditions, the visibility is around 23m, and the maximum depth is 27m. It is recommended for advanced divers. These dive sites are located in the Netherlands, specifically near Fort Vaersenbaai, Kaminda Dokter Amado Römer, Zegu, Curacao.
