Bergse Diepsluis

The Bergse Diepsluis, also commonly known as Oesterdam or the Thoolse Gat amongst local divers, is an easily accessible dive site that offers a fascinating introduction to the wonders of the Oosterschelde National Park. Situated in a small bay, this site boasts minimal to no current, making it an ideal location for beginners to dive and explore.

A highlight of the dive is the abundance of sea bass, which can be found underneath the platform. On the platform itself, a splendid sight awaits divers in the form of a large school of pebble fish. Additionally, lucky divers may even have the chance to spot sepias and perhaps even seahorses.

One of the reasons Bergse Diepsluis enjoys such calm conditions is due to its position at the end of the Oosterschelde. This unique location ensures a tranquil diving experience, perfect for introducing new divers to the wonders of the Oosterschelde. A training platform is also available for skill practice, further enhancing the appeal of this site.

Conveniently, Bergse Diepsluis offers ample parking space, particularly suitable for organizing club activities. It's important to note, however, that during the summer months, the parking area tends to fill up quickly, so early arrival is recommended.

To access the dive site from the parking lot, take a leisurely walk up the dike on the left-hand side. Look for the clearly marked launching point at Oesterdam, indicated by a stretched-out cord. You'll find the platform directly in front of the rope, situated at a depth of 8 to 9 meters. Navigation is straightforward, as you can simply follow a loop starting from either the left or right side.

Underneath the platform, you'll discover a rich variety of marine life, including sea bass engaged in spawning activities during the summer months. On the platform itself, a captivating spectacle awaits divers in the form of a bustling school of pebble fish. These small fish, measuring around 10 cm in size, thrive in groups. As you explore, you'll encounter a diverse range of marine species that can be found throughout the rest of the Oosterschelde, including mating sepias and, with luck, even seahorses.

If you're a beginner or an advanced diver looking for a rewarding and accessible dive site, Bergse Diepsluis in the Netherlands should be at the top of your list. With visibility reaching up to 4 meters and a maximum depth of 10 meters, this dive site promises an unforgettable underwater experience. Plan your visit to the Veerweg, Tholen, Zeeland, Netherlands, 4691PD location and prepare to be amazed by the wonders of the Oosterschelde National Park.
