Thomas Reef
One of the highlights of diving at Thomas Reef is the abundant presence of vibrant Red Sea fish. Additionally, this site offers the exciting possibility of encountering sharks. During the summer months, divers can often spot schools of tuna and snappers.
As the most colorful reef in the Straits of Tiran, Thomas Reef provides an immersive drift dive experience. Although there are no fixed mooring lines, divers can explore the eastern side of the reef where the water is usually calmer. Advanced divers, with good air consumption, may even have the opportunity to circumnavigate the reef.
The reef's depth ranges from 0.5 to 28m, encompassing a wide sandy plateau adorned with both hard and soft corals. Along the drop-off, divers can admire a mesmerizing row of Gorgonian Fans, hosting intriguing marine life such as Long Nose Hawk Fish, various species of Nudibranchs, and Pipe Fish. Divers may also catch glimpses of turtles enjoying their lunch and white tip reef sharks resting on the sandy plateau or swimming nearby.
Exploring the reef wall reveals small pinnacles adorned with coral and bustling schools of Anthias. By looking away from the reef, divers may come across Unicorn Fish, Red-tooth Trigger Fish, as well as large groups of Jacks, barracuda, and Trevallies. Tec divers will appreciate the stunning canyon located halfway along the plateau, adding an additional aspect of interest to the dive.
With excellent visibility up to 26m and a maximum depth of 30m, Thomas Reef is suitable for both beginner and advanced divers. Its proximity to undefined makes it a convenient and exciting dive location for all underwater enthusiasts.
