Schloss Heroldeck, Millstätter See

Located directly beneath the Heroldeck Castle on the B98, there is a convenient parking bay with space for 3-4 cars. Just 50m above the parking area, you will find the entrance to a magnificent underwater world. Access to the water is provided by a sturdy ladder. As you descend, the shoreline quickly drops off, revealing prominent rocks and abundant aquatic vegetation. At a depth of 10m, you'll discover an enchanting landscape of milfoil and hornwort, teeming with a variety of fish species.

The dive site becomes particularly fascinating between the surface and 15m depth, where you'll encounter a captivating array of rocky formations, tree trunks, and dense underwater vegetation. This underwater habitat provides a sanctuary for pike, perch, tench, rudd, roach, catfish, and zander. As you explore further, approximately 15 minutes into the dive, you'll come across a sunken rowboat resting at 5m depth.

If you proceed about 50m towards Millstadt from the parking bay, you will discover another entrance. Access to the water is facilitated by a sturdy staircase, leading you to a small plateau for ease of entry. Once submerged, you'll navigate through a remarkable underwater world characterized by large rocks, tree trunks, and a densely overgrown bank. As you venture deeper, the sandy to stony bottom emerges at around 20m depth. After approximately 15-20 minutes, you'll encounter a more gently sloping terrain devoid of underwater vegetation. This is where the buoy field of the local fishing association begins. It is recommended to transition to the shallow shore zone, as you make your way back, where you will pass a sunken rowing boat standing upright on the rocks at a depth of 5m. Meanwhile, you will find yourself surrounded by schools of fish, as you navigate through the upper part of the vegetation. Bask in the sight of pike basking in the milfoil and tench playing a game of hide and seek.

Following the contour of the shore and descending to about 4m, you will encounter majestic tree trunks, serving as a haven for catfish and pike. With good visibility, you may even have a clear view of the staircase from below, marking your return to the starting point.
