MiG-17 (Wreck)
Discover the extraordinary relic of the Russian occupation era in the Schwerin Outer Sea - the remarkable wreckage of a MiG-17 aircraft. Thought to be just a legend for many years, this incredible find was finally uncovered in 2013. Please note that access to this airplane wreck is only available from the nearby base.
To fully experience this dive, it is crucial to have precise buoyancy control. Even the slightest misstep in fin movement can significantly reduce visibility by stirring up fine sediment.
Located in the exposed northern part of Schwerin Lake, it's important to allocate ample time for this excursion. Your patience will be rewarded with an unforgettable dive at this iconic technical monument. Immersed in 17 meters of water, the aluminum hull of the MiG seems to be firmly embedded, resembling a dart in the lakebed. The wreck is teeming with small shells, and despite the passage of time, you can still admire visible remnants such as the tail unit, pipes, and instruments. One wing remains partially connected to the fuselage, creating a striking metal barrier partially submerged in the mud. Additionally, a few meters away lies the other wing, proudly displaying the recognizable red Russian star.
With a visibility of about 3 meters, divers of all levels -- from beginners to advanced -- can partake in this captivating adventure. As a prized underwater attraction, the MiG-17 wreck is an essential highlight when exploring the dive sites of Germany. Situated close to Wiligrad, Lübstorf, Lützow-Lübstorf, Nordwestmecklenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, it is easily accessible for enthusiasts seeking to immerse themselves in the rich history and beauty of the area.
