La Galera
This dive site, also known as Cala del Pato, offers easy access and is located west of the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse in Spain. It is a popular spot for divers of all levels, especially beginners and those undergoing diving training.
The cove features crystal clear waters and very clear sand, creating a serene and picturesque underwater environment. The dive site is sheltered from currents, ensuring a safe and enjoyable diving experience. With visibility up to 14m and a maximum depth of 10m, divers can explore the underwater world with ease.
The cove is characterized by its unique rock formation in the middle, which resembles a submerged duck's head. As divers enter from the coast, they will encounter rocks and boulders, transitioning into a large sandy area with extensive patches of Posidonia seagrass. Beyond the sandy area, divers will navigate through the lush Posidonia meadows, encountering a diverse range of marine life.
Divers can expect to encounter fascinating creatures such as cuttlefish, octopus, bream, two banded beams, ornate wrasse, rainbow wrasse, large banks of damselfish, and seabream. In the spring, the cove becomes a breeding ground for mules (pipe fish), which expertly camouflage themselves among the leaves of dried Posidonia.
For an extraordinary diving experience, it is highly recommended to embark on a night dive at this site. The underwater landscape transforms as octopuses go hunting, Balearic conger eels emerge, and cuttlefish and a variety of shrimps make their appearance.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, this dive site offers a captivating and accessible underwater adventure. Don't miss the opportunity to explore this remarkable underwater world off the coast of Spain.
