Koh Kong Yai
Koh Kong Yai, located on the northeastern side of Chaloklum Beach in Thailand, is an exceptional local pinnacle dive site. While visibility and current conditions can be unpredictable, this spot offers an incredible diving experience when conditions are favorable. With its diverse topography, including a maximum depth of 20 meters, the underwater scenery is captivating.
The southwestern (deep) side of Koh Kong Yai boasts an abundance of large soft coral, sea fans, barracuda, and batfish. On the shallow side, divers can encounter angelfish, butterflyfish, and other marine life similar to that found around Haad Khom.
The island is home to sheltered, shallow reef areas with depths of less than 10 meters, making it ideal for beginner divers. In the northern and eastern parts of the island, the depth can reach approximately 20 meters. This variation in terrain allows for a wide array of marine species to thrive, making Koh Kong Yai an excellent dive site for student divers. Locals even refer to it at times as the local Sail Rock.
For those planning a visit, Koh Kong Yai is conveniently located near Coconut Bar and Pedestrian access to Bottle Beach in Surat Thani Province, Thailand.
