Zilvermeer
The Zilvermeer, situated in the municipality of Mol, is a stunning natural area that serves as a provincial recreation site in the heart of the Kempen region in Belgium. The captivating landscape is the result of sand extraction for the former glass industry, which created various lakes in the area.
Underwater, divers can encounter a diverse range of aquatic life, including sturgeon, carp, catfish, sunfish, goldfish, silver wind, and koi. Whether you are an experienced diver or just starting out, the Zilvermeer domain offers a plethora of activities for day recreation. Alongside hiking, visitors can partake in various water sports like swimming, sailing, surfing, fishing, rowing, and, of course, diving.
The domain encompasses several lakes, each with its own unique characteristics. For diving enthusiasts, the designated dive lake within the domain is the prime location. The facilities at the Zilvermeer are outstanding, providing all the necessary amenities for a comfortable diving experience. These amenities include a cafeteria, changing rooms, indoor and outdoor showers, lockers, and a terrace. Parking is conveniently available along the waterfront, ensuring that you don't need to walk more than 10 meters to access the water. Safety is also prioritized, with oxygen, a first aid kit, a lifeboat, and a heart defibrillator readily available.
The Zilvermeer itself spans approximately 400 by 430 meters and is situated amidst a nature reserve, creating a truly immersive diving environment. Divers are required to register at D-CENTER before entering the water, a simple process that is free of charge. Once submerged, divers will appreciate the gradual drop of the sandy bottom, descending to a maximum depth of 10 meters. The bottom is typically covered with a layer of sludge, creating resistance that can be felt with each stroke. While visibility is generally good, it can be affected and occasionally disappointing on busy weekends.
With its maximum depth ranging between 6 and 9 meters and two peaks reaching 15 meters, the Zilvermeer lake is an ideal dive site for beginner divers. To enhance the appeal of the dive site, captivating underwater artworks have been strategically placed. Additionally, divers can explore several underwater silos, providing intriguing swim-through opportunities.
For those seeking a captivating dive experience in Belgium, the Zilvermeer is a must-visit destination. Located close to Atlantis, Zilvermeerlaan, Mol, Turnhout, Antwerp, Flanders, 2400, Belgium, it offers a picturesque setting immersed in natural beauty.
