Tobishima

Tobishima, located 39 km off the coast of Sakata City in Japan, offers excellent diving opportunities. With visibility ranging from 20 to 30 meters in August, divers can explore the fascinating underwater terrain that drops vertically to a maximum depth of 40 meters. The site boasts a diverse array of corals and isoflavas, which are rarely found in the Tohoku region.

From May to September, Tobishima becomes a gathering spot for schools of bluefin tuna. Divers can also spot jawfish, damselfish, as well as various marine species like lobster, snapper, black rockfish, and a wall of horse mackerel. During autumn, the waters are frequented by gigantic jellyfish measuring over one meter in length.

One of the main attractions for divers is the opportunity to observe hundreds of Steller's sea sharks swarming at Tobishima. This incredible spectacle occurs annually from May to early July, as the sharks gather to give birth and mate.
