Three Sisters Springs

Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida is a renowned dive site that offers a unique experience for divers. This complex of three spring areas is not only visually stunning but also serves as an important natural warm-water refuge for the endangered Florida manatee. The crystal-clear waters of Kings Bay, which is fed by the springs' many vents and sand boils, create an ideal environment for observing various species of fresh water fish and turtles.

It's important to note that Three Sisters Springs' entrance is currently closed to boats, ensuring a tranquil and undisturbed diving experience. While diving in the area may be limited when there is a high number of manatees present, the occasional sighting of these gentle giants adds to the allure of this dive site. Divers of all skill levels, including beginners, can enjoy exploring the underwater realm of Three Sisters Springs.

The surrounding land of the springs is privately owned and posted, maintaining the pristine condition of the site. Interestingly, this location holds historical significance as it was once utilized by the renowned Jacques Cousteau. He and his team, along with dedicated volunteers, rehabilitated a manatee named "Sewer Sam" who was rescued from a Miami sewer system. After acclimating Sam to the area, he was released into Kings Bay where he joined other manatees gathering there.

Please take note that Three Sisters Springs is closed for scuba diving from November 15 to March 31. However, for those looking to explore the underwater realm during this period, neighboring dive sites such as Weeki Wachee and Rainbow River offer great opportunities for beginner divers. With a maximum depth of 7 meters and visibility reaching up to 13 meters, these sites provide an ideal setting for novice divers to embark on their underwater adventures.
