Three Oaks Recreation Area

Welcome to Three Oaks Recreation Area, a 300-acre quarry located in Crystal Lake, McHenry County, Illinois, United States. As a certified diver, you can now explore our pristine scuba area, conveniently accessible from the East Marina or via shore.

Within the designated diving area, spanning approximately 3 acres, you will find three training platforms. These platforms are positioned 100 feet apart at a depth of 25 feet, clearly marked with buoys at the surface. The maximum depth in our dive site reaches 45 feet, allowing for thrilling underwater adventures.

Depending on the time of year, visibility ranges from 10 to 40 feet, ensuring a captivating and immersive diving experience. As you navigate the waters, you can encounter a variety of fresh water fish species, including Bass, Blue Gill, Crappie, Catfish, Northern Pike, and more.

At Three Oaks Recreation Area, safety is our top priority. To access the diving area, please check in at the Marina and present a valid certification card and photo ID. Remember to always dive with a buddy, tow a surface float or flag, and comply with the operating hours from 8 am to 7 pm. The minimum age for diving is 12 years old, and divers within the age range of 12-17 must be accompanied by a certified dive instructor or a certified parent/guardian throughout the entire dive. To ensure security, we will hold your driver's license and car keys until checkout.

As for fees, residents enjoy free parking, while non-residents can park for a nominal fee of $5.00. Diving rates for residents are $15.00 and $20.00 for non-residents. Please note that during the months of October and November, Monday through Thursday, reservations are required. You can reach us at 815-790-8840. On Fridays through Sundays, our dive site operates from 7 am until sunset.
