Schwerborner Baggersee
History: Approximately 18,000 years ago, the river now known as Ur-Gera underwent gravel mining, resulting in a new course being formed. Stretching for a length of nine kilometers, this river boasts twelve gravel pits that have since been filled with groundwater. These former mining sites have been repurposed for recreational activities and are leased to provide access to the water. Local visitors can indulge in various leisure pursuits such as swimming, diving, and jetskiing.
Underwater World: The river is home to a diverse array of aquatic life, including river crayfish, mussels, sponges, woodlouse, as well as carp, pike, and perch. To add to the intrigue, we have intentionally submerged a plastic anatomy skeleton, creating an unusual attraction for divers.
Water Conditions: With a maximum depth of 8 meters, this site offers excellent visibility of up to 5 meters. The absence of strong currents makes it suitable for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced. A convenient training platform is located at a depth of 5 meters, providing an ideal spot for skill development. The underwater landscape is adorned with enchanting water plants, adding to the aesthetic appeal. It is important to exercise caution when entering the water due to a gently sloping entrance that poses a potential risk of slipping.
Location: This captivating dive site is situated close to the A 71 highway, near Schwerborn in Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany.
