Promenade Point
This freshwater lake boasts an array of aquatic life, such as Fresh Water crayfish, Native Bullies, and introduced trout. Thanks to its rain-fed source, visibility in the lake is generally excellent. However, divers should take care to maintain proper buoyancy and avoid stirring up the silty/sandy bottom. Beginner divers and snorkelers can delight in the corner bay's gentle slope, which allows for easy entry and reaches a maximum depth of around 5m. As you venture further, you'll encounter a delicate ledge that slopes downward a few meters to approximately 8m, beyond which the bottom gradually deepens. Experienced divers and freedivers may prefer to explore from a bit further along the point, as depth increases nearer to the bank. It's important to remain vigilant for boat traffic, jet skis, water skiing, and sailing craft. Unfortunately, litter, including drink bottles, can be found on the lakebed; consider bringing a cleanup bag to help preserve this natural beauty.
The visibility at Kai Iwi Lakes reaches up to 7m, with a maximum depth of 15m. This dive site is suitable for both beginner and advanced divers. Located in New Zealand, specifically at Kai Iwi Lakes Campsite (Promenade Point), Kai Iwi Lakes Road, Kaipara District, Northland, it offers a convenient and enriching diving experience for all.
