Nazumado

Nazumado, located on the western side of the island, provides breathtaking views of Hachijo Kojima. This dive site offers a unique setup with convenient rope assistance for entering and exiting the walled reef, which descends sharply along the slope.

One of the highlights of Nazumado is the abundant presence of sea turtles, which can be observed up-close due to their lack of fear towards divers. During springtime, divers can also admire a diverse range of nudibranchs, varying in size from small to large. Juuzen, a species of butterfly fish endemic to Hachijo Island and the Ogasawara Islands, can be spotted in their juvenile form. It's a rare treat to witness the gathering of Juuzen fish during spring, as they come together to lay their eggs, known as Juuzen Tama. Moreover, divers may encounter Lenten sea otters of all ages, from juveniles to adults.

As you venture deeper, you'll notice the presence of gorota stones spread across the lava formations, adding a stunning element to the underwater landscape. Further out, you'll come across a prominent underwater feature known as the "horse's back" - a large root formation with an arch-shaped hole that allows divers to swim through to the other side. The water clarity is exceptional, providing a dynamic and visually pleasing experience. Keep an eye out for schools of red snapper near the root tips, as well as larger species like tuna.

Nazumado boasts excellent visibility, reaching up to 26 meters, allowing divers to fully appreciate the underwater surroundings. With a maximum depth of 22 meters, this dive site caters to divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced and expert divers. Situated in Japan, it is conveniently located near 八丈循環線, 永郷, Hachijo, Hachijō Subprefecture, Tokyo.

Experience the wonders of Nazumado, where enthralling marine life and captivating underwater landscapes await divers of all skill levels.
