Ilha do Farol - Alcatrazes
The Alcatrazes archipelago, located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, offers an unparalleled diving experience. This marine area is renowned for its pristine beauty, largely due to the restrictions imposed by the Brazilian Navy and Esec Tupinambás since the 1980s. After more than three decades of prohibition, scuba diving was once again made accessible to the public in December 2018.
At the Alcatrazes Refugio, divers can immerse themselves in the largest frigate forest in Latin America. As they navigate through the crystal-clear waters, they are likely to encounter an array of fascinating marine creatures, including dolphins, whales, orcas, and various bird species.
On one side of the islet, divers will discover rocky formations teeming with marine life, extending up to a depth of 20 meters. On the opposite side, the Lighthouse Island presents a dramatic slab that descends to an impressive 40 meters below the surface. This dive site offers stunning opportunities to witness shoals of Enxada/Xaréu/Pampos, spot turtles and stingrays, and observe impressive aquatic giants passing by. Explorers will also encounter intriguing species such as moray eels, brain corals, maidens, groupers, whiting, and an abundance of fish, coral, and algae.
With a visibility of approximately 12 meters and a maximum depth of 15 meters, Alcatrazes serves as an ideal diving destination for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced and expert divers. Situated in the Southeast Region of Brazil, near the Aquipelago de Alcatrazes, this extraordinary dive site promises unforgettable underwater adventures.
