Foggy Shark Cave
From March to June, divers can rely on encountering gray nurse sharks at this site. More recently, smaller gray nurse sharks have been spotted here, choosing to stay until the summer months.
Your descent into the water will be guided by the anchor line, usually positioning you directly above the cave. At a depth of approximately 30 meters, you will be surrounded by abundant kelp. As you make your way over the cliff, the sandy base extends about forty meters from the cave's entrance. The mouth of the cave is eight meters wide but only three meters high. Explorers should exercise caution when venturing inside due to the presence of soft silt, ensuring they bring a torch for visibility. Despite the cave being relatively short, extending only ten meters into the rock face, divers will exit through the same opening they entered. As long as the silt is undisturbed, the exit is easily identified. Divers typically choose to observe the sharks from the large boulder situated in front of the cave, providing a more natural viewing experience. Foggy Shark cave is also home to schools of juvenile yellowtail and their larger counterparts, the Yellowtail Kingfish, swimming outside its confines. Additionally, during various times of the year, divers will encounter an impressive number of Mullaway schools. Wobbegong sharks, Sea Pike, and Mados can also be found in this area. From July to September, keep an eye out for Port Jackson sharks as they laze about the entrance channel. The top of the cave is adorned with thick kelp, creating a vibrant marine environment filled with sessile marine life.
This breathtaking dive site offers a maximum depth of 28 meters with visibility reaching up to 12 meters. With its unique cave system and diverse marine life, it is recommended for advanced divers seeking an unforgettable underwater adventure. Located in Australia, this close and convenient dive location promises an exhilarating experience for diving enthusiasts.
