Flughafen See

Flughafen, an artificially created airport lake, is located north of the airport in Germany. This quarry pond consists of two larger basins and can be accessed from the eastern side via Otisstraße. A short 500-meter walk through the forest will lead you to the lake.

The upper bank area of Flughafen features lush vegetation and has been home to perch for several years. As you move closer to the shore, you'll notice the typical quarry pond steps, which slope down and provide access to the two basins. This lake offers an exciting opportunity for deep dives, although it's essential to plan accordingly due to significant temperature drops. Make sure you have the appropriate equipment for this dive.

Over time, Flughafen has become a popular destination for walkers, swimmers, fishermen, and divers. On the southwest side, you'll find a bird sanctuary, which has been the focus of numerous conservation projects. These efforts have greatly improved the quality of life for the local animal, bird, and plant species. It's worth noting that Flughafen has only one tributary.

If you're considering diving in this area, keep in mind that the visibility underwater is around 5 meters, and the maximum depth is 12 meters. Flughafen is suitable for beginner divers. Located in Reinickendorf, Berlin, close proximity to Abstimmmhaus, Seidelstraße, Cité Guynemer, Tegel, makes it easily accessible.
