Carrière de La Gombe

La Gombe Quarry is a stunning sandstone quarry situated near the picturesque Esneux, Belgium. Nestled close to the river "The Ourthe," it is renowned as one of the most beautiful dive sites in the country.

A notable highlight at La Gombe Quarry is the iconic F 84 Belgian Air Force plane resting at a depth of fifteen meters. The shooting chair, previously located within the aircraft, has been removed and now rests ten meters in front of the plane's nose. Visibility in the quarry varies horizontally between 5 to 15 meters, depending on rainfall. Access to the water is via a stone staircase leading to a metal pontoon. The quarry features multiple exit points with convenient stairs. Exploring the depths reveals additional attractions, such as a quaint little house, a couple of boats, two caves, and a diving bell where divers can communicate while submerging their heads. Divers will also find large plastic tubes, crafted in the shape of 'L' and 'S,' perfect for an enjoyable swim-through. Notably, an accessible old grain silo offers exploration opportunities at both the top and bottom.

As for marine life, La Gombe Quarry boasts an impressive variety of fish species, creating a vibrant and lively underwater ecosystem. Additionally, a practice platform located near the pontoon at a depth of 15 meters provides an ideal training area for divers looking to enhance their skills. Night dives are also a fantastic experience at La Gombe Quarry; however, it is advisable to schedule them in advance.
