Buddha Coral

Amami Oshima, the second largest island in Japan, is conveniently located between Kagoshima and the main island of Okinawa. With its excellent accessibility and numerous flights, it is a popular destination for divers. Just a 15-minute boat ride away, you can witness the magnificent Daibutsu Coral, a colossal formation resembling the head of a giant Buddha. This underwater marvel boasts dimensions of 20 meters in diameter and 7 meters in height, making it an awe-inspiring sight. The water surrounding the coral is approximately 16 meters deep, adorned with delicate white sand that stretches across the seabed. Divers of all levels, including beginners, can comfortably explore this mesmerizing spot.

During the spring season, one of the highlights is observing catfish laying eggs. Additionally, you'll encounter a diverse array of marine life, including flounder, snappers, lionfish, scorpionfish, spotted angelfish, and yellow-eyed clams. In the sandy areas nearby, you can also catch sight of the elusive fine-tailed dingbats and curious garden eels.
